Opinion | Theres more to Cabelas than guns
I was intrigued but then disappointed by the March 26 Business article "Cabela's finds its crowd," about the new Cabela's store in Gainesville. Leave it to The Post to see the successful opening of a retail store with a strong following as being some sort of political statement.
When other retailers are struggling, the huge Cabela’s store in Prince William County has brought jobs and certainly tax revenue to the area. The unspoken but constant theme in this article was guns and President Trump. I don’t like Mr. Trump and have no desire to own a gun, but I was moved by aisles and aisles of fishing rods, and my imagination was stoked when looking at pontoon boats and fly-tying kits in the store.
The Post should also visit the Duluth Trading Co. store just off Route 66 in Manassas. This is another large, thriving retailer moving from catalogue to brick-and-mortar stores that just opened in Prince William County, and it doesn't even sell guns. There is a story here, but it was missed by political tunnel vision.

I had hoped for a discussion in the March 26 Business article "Cabela's finds its crowd" about the attempted purchase of Cabela's by Bass Pro Shops, antitrust issues, market dominance, pricing and the lack of consumer choice such a merger would bring. Sadly, only one small paragraph in the article dealt with that. Instead, the article talked about guns, a lot of guns, guns, a lot of people with guns, guns, how many guns people have, guns.
The firearms department of Cabela’s is small, yet firearms dominated the article. Did the reporter not notice the fishing department, which dwarfs the firearms department? What about the aquarium and the mounted animals? Boats, all-terrain vehicles, clothing, shoes, archery equipment, cooking equipment, dog-training gear, game calls?
